As well as Viveport Video, the company also released its new subscription model Viveport Infinity earlier this week. HTC released an SDK which allows developers to add finger tracking to their Vive or Vive Pro apps. For the Vive Focus standalone headset the SDK instead provides hand position and gesture recognition. On Vive Focus, the hand position tracking runs at 17FPS.
In a bid to make the Viveport subscription service even more tempting for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift users, the platform announced an unlimited version called Viveport Infinity back in January.
The latest data from Valve’s Steam Survey shows the Rift and Windows VR headsets continuing growth streaks in their share of monthly-connected headsets on Steam, snatching share mostly from the Vive and Vive Pro. Each month Valve collects info from Steam users to determine some baseline statistics about what kind of hardware and software is used by the platform’s population, and to see how things are changing over time; that includes which VR headsets are connected to users’ computers.

Last year’s Viveport Developer Awards had over 250 applicants, and there are likely to be more this year. This is the third year of the Viveport Developer Awards program. However, winners will receive prize money and resources from Vive.
This year, Vive has chosen to keep their Entertainment, Education, Arts & Culture, and Arcade categories and have left out their Enterprise section. But maybe the Vive Wave and Vive Focus platform are too new to have had massive game and experience creation for location-based entertainment venues.
“Right now, customers that will find [Vive Focus] valuable are typically early adopters that buy all the new tech, we’re fine with that, but the Wave SDK really enables us to talk to consumers with other hardware partners,” said O’Brien.
